How to empty sda1<\/code>,vda1<\/code> on VPS<\/h1>\n

Sometimes your OS (Ubuntu, Linux<\/strong>, etc…) disk space might become full, by \/dev\/vda1\/<\/code>, \/dev\/vda2\/<\/code>, \/dev\/vda3\/<\/code>\u00a0or etc… (To check that, just navigate to root directory by using command:\u00a0cd ..<\/code>\u00a0and then use\u00a0df -h<\/code>\u00a0to see the disk usage)\u00a0.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Jenkins or Docker (or other) might be the issue<\/h2>\n

Many times, that problem might be coming from Jenkins \/ Docker<\/strong>. If you use Jenkins, then\u00a0I suggest that you making the logs smaller. For that, in \/etc\/logrotate.d\/jenkins<\/code>\u00a0you might use:<\/p>\n

\/var\/log\/jenkins\/jenkins.log {
    daily
    copytruncate
    missingok
    rotate 2
    size 1M

Still full disk?<\/h1>\n
Even after you made the above suggestion and disk space is still full, then maybe you have deleted a large file already, while that file was being stillused by some process?\u00a0To find out what might be using that space, one solution is to use the command\u00a0lsof \/ | grep deleted<\/code>\u00a0and there will show up the processes that might be taking the space. You have to restart those services. Just use:<\/p>\n
sudo systemctl restart processName<\/span><\/pre>\n
and then check again with df -h<\/code>\u00a0 and you will see the space is now free!<\/p>\n
