[SOLUTION] Synergy Warning/Error “unrecognized client name”

symless software

Error Message/Issue in Synergy

Maybe some of you use mirroring software, named Synergy (from Symless.com), on either Windows or Mac computers.

At first, after you install and setup the initial things of it, you will need to try to connect with your another PC (in same network).

During connection, many of you may get the following error messages (at the moment, while you try to pair them):

On Client’s window:
Note: connecting to ‘x.x.x.x’ :   x.x.x.x:24800

ERROR: server refused client with name "user"
WARNING: failed to connect to server: server refused client with our name

OR

ERROR: server already has a connected client with name "user"
WARNING: failed to connect to server: server already has a connected client with our name

On Server’s window:

WARNING: unrecognised client name "user", check server config
NOTE: disconnecting client "user"
NOTE: client "user" has disconnected

Solve the problem

The problem is that the user which tries to connect is unrecognized, it means you have to add that user in “ALLOWED” list. To do this, open  “Configure Server”, then drag a new PC into the cell.

drag pc in window menu

Then double click that new PC icon, and enter anything in the SCEEN NAME field, but in ALIAS field, add exact username of the CLIENT. Click OK>OK and START them on both PC’s again. Problem should be solved !

  1. a very important step is missing here. Make sure to STOP running synergy (by clicking the STOP button at the bottom right of Synergy screen so as to convert it into START) then follow the above steps then START synergy.
